Nel 2007 la calotta glaciale groenlandese ha subito processi di fusione superficiale sul 51% della sua estensione, contro il 29%
del 1996, con un incremento medio annuale del 8% dal 1995 al 2007. I deflussi del 2007 sono stati superiori del 35% ai valori medi del periodo tra
il 1995 ed il 2006.

Global Temperature Trends: 2008 Annual Summation (updated)

Il 2008 è stato un anno più freddo del 2007, ma risulta comunque
il settimo anno più caldo a partire dal 1900. La sua temperatura media inferiore
a quella del 2007 è probabilmente legata alla persistenza di La Niña nel Pacifico, ed al fatto
che questo anno cade durante il minimo di attività solare, che si presenta inferiore a quello del precedente ciclo
undecennale.
